The HV's Chances For Showers, Thunderstorms Increase Through Weekend

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — On a June weekend that is just chock-full of events across the region, everyone's looking at the weather — which will be iffy.

"The best way to summarize the forecast at this point is clouds mixing with sun, but a little unsettled with a chance of a few passing showers," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

Saturday may be salvageable, as the chance of rain is just 30 percent. Sunday looks to be wetter.

AccuWeather.com forecasters expect thunderstorms on Sunday. "Some of the rain may even be heavy enough to cause flooding on streets and in poor drainage areas across central and southern New York," said Mary Gilbert, AccuWeather meteorologist.

Here's the weekend forecast from the National Weather Service:

• Friday night - Increasing clouds, with a low around 57. Light northwest wind.
• Saturday - A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Saturday Night - A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Sunday - A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Sunday Night - Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Monday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.
