Law Day in Rockland County

The head of the Nyack NAACP and a Pearl River student received awards.

Law Day was celebrated nationally May 2, and the theme was "Miranda -- More than Words."

At the event in Rockland County, held in the jury room at the county courthouse, Robert B. Marcus, president of the Rockland County Bar Association, presented the Liberty Bell Award to Dr. Frances E. Pratt, longtime president of the Nyack NAACP.

"Her lifelong commitment to civil rights is what truly distinguishes her," he said.

The Rockland County Women's Bar Association presented an award to the winner of the annual Law Day Essay Contest, Lauren Sens-Castet, a senior at Pearl River High School.

The guest speaker was Itamar Yeger, Esq., counsel to the county District Attorney, who spoke about the history of the Miranda rulings.
