Today, Congressman-elect Mondaire Jones will join U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and fellow incoming New York Congressmembers Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Ritchie Torres (NY-15) for a press conference to call on President-elect Joe Biden to exercise his executive authority to forgive student debt in the 117th Congress.

“For every generation before mine, education has offered young people a ticket to the American Dream. Unfortunately, that dream has not materialized for the youth of today, especially in Black and brown communities,” said Jones. “Wages have remained stagnant for decades as the costs of higher education, and of living generally, have skyrocketed. Forgiving student debt would liberate millions of Americans to participate meaningfully in our economy through home ownership and entrepreneurship, and it would be a critical step toward racial, generational, and economic justice.”
