Need A Boilermaker? Union Recruiting Apprentices In The HV

NYACK, NY — The Boilermakers, Local Union No. 5, will conduct a recruitment from April 15, 2019 through March 16, 2020 for five boilermaker (construction) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced.
In addition, two other local unions have open recruiting periods now deep into 2019 for sprinkler fitter apprentices and for carpenter lather apprentices.

The five openings listed for boilermaker apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions – the New York City, Long Island, and Hudson Valley regions.
Applications can be obtained from Local Union #5, 24 Van Siclen Ave, Floral Park, NY, from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Monday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. The Committee requires that applicants:

- Must be at least 18 years old. Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
- Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of a boilermaker (construction), which may include:
- Working an 8-hour day continually on their feet.
- Lifting and carrying weights in excess of 95 pounds for extended periods.
- Working in extreme weather conditions and temperatures.
- Working in restricted or confined spaces.
- Working at heights of 20 feet or more on scaffolds or platforms.
- Working in ditches or trenches up to 20 feet deep.
- Working in nuclear facilities.
- Working in hazardous conditions.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction classes.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol test, at the expense of the sponsor, within 48 hours of signing the apprenticeship agreement.

Meanwhile, the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Fund is conducting a recruitment through Nov. 1, 2019 for four lather (carpenter) apprentices.
Applications must be obtained in person at the Carpenters Local Union 279, 10 Corporate Park Drive, Hopewell Junction, NY from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
Also, the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local Union #669, is conducting a recruitment through Nov. 01, 2019 for 20-25 sprinkler fitter apprentices. The openings represent the total number for four recruitment regions - the Capital District, Central, Hudson Valley, and Western regions of New York.
Applications can be obtained from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. The closest locations are:

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
