NWS: Think on Winter While Temps are Unusually Warm

Winter Weather Awareness Week will be sunny in Piermont and Nyack.

Blue skies and warm temperatures are in store for the next few days in Rockland County.

“Monday will be the start of what should become a very nice week of weather,” says Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “This is all thanks to a monster ridge of high pressure in the eastern US, and it will give us temperatures that are a solid 10 to 15 degrees above average.”

The NWS says the chances are greater than 33 percent that New York will have a mild winter, with above normal temperatures and above normal precipitation -- based on a strong El Nino effect.

However, it warns, shorter-term climate factors that are difficult to predict more than 1 to 2 weeks in advance will have greater influence on the weather.
