Nyack HS Fencing Team Takes the Championship in 2 Events
The Nyack High School Fencing Team took gold in the league finals and sectional championships.
The Nyack Fencing team finished the 2017-2018 season with 2 championship plaques. The Rockland - Westchester fencing league includes Ardsley, Arlington, Clarkstown, Irvington, Lourdes, Mamaroneck, Woodlands, Tappan-Zee and Nyack high schools. The Womens epee team posted an undefeated season winning the League & Section. Junior Lucy Jiao (18-0) and Senior Rowan Bates (14-4) lead the way in Womens epee and finished the season with only 4 losses between them. They fenced a strong Clarkstown team in the Sectional Championship and were able to edge them out for a victory.
The Womens foil team put on one of the best showings in the schools history winning both the League and Section in dominant fashion. Senior Solange Hybel and Freshman Ryan Small both went 22-0 with Junior Charlotte Hurson incurring only 2 losses on the season with a 15-2 record. All three fencers were named to the All-Section team and look forward to the final individual tournament of the season on 2/24 at the Rockland Fencers Club.
The Nyack fencing team trains at the Rockland Fencers Club, a state of the art fencing facility with 14 Olympic sized fencing strips, 3 days per week during the season. Many of the top fencers on the Nyack team train year round at the RFC and compete in national tournaments around the country.

Come out and cheer on the Nyack Fencing team at the individual championships held at the Rockland Fencers Club (40 Lydecker St, Nyack, NY 10960) at 1:30pm on February 24th! This is the final tournament of the season.
