NYACK, NY — As the new year begins, our local officials are busy conducting the public's business in plain sight. Several public meetings are scheduled for this week that affect Nyack and Piermont; however, the Orangetown Planning Board meeting has been canceled.
John Adams famously wrote, "Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right … and a desire to know." There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots.

- Project Review Committee, 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Greenbush Auditorium. On the agenda: Fisher site plan, Berachah Avenue, South Nyack; Tri-Bee re-subdivision and re-site plans, East Central Avenue, Pearl River; East Coast BLR site plan, Kings Highway, Orangeburg; La Famiglia Lanni Restaurant outdoor dining site plan, Main Street, Sparkill.
Piermont
Piermont Village Zoning Board of Appeals, 7 p.m. Thursday, Village Hall
South Orangetown school district
Board of Education, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, South Orangetown Middle School Library, 160 Van Wyck Road, Blauvelt. The trustees will move into Executive Session to discuss matters pertaining to collective bargaining negotiations before convening in public for a work session at 7:30 p.m.
