“Right-wing forces are mobilizing to sabotage the nuclear agreement that the Obama administration has forged with Iran and the other major world powers,” organizers said in a press release. “ With New York Senator Schumer aligning himself with them, it seems essential for those of us who want peace and diplomacy instead of war to speak out. Please come to as many as you can, invite like-minded friends and pass this message along.
“The purpose of this vigil is to proclaim that healing and open communication are superior to force and coercion. We want our faces to represent the very real possibility for collaborative peace with Iran, and with all nations.

“R4JP stands with the UN Security Council and Germany (P5+1) in supporting a diplomatic resolution with Iran. We believe that domination, violence, and intimidation serve no one—and that a nuclear weapon-free world is possible. The aim of the resolution is to monitor legal nuclear activity while disabling any potential weapons development. Leading experts on nuclear technology affirm that the resolution addresses all possible routes toward building a weapon.
“R4JP opposes pro-war propaganda, including fear-mongering concerning Iran’s intentions and false allegations of anti-Semitism directed at the Peace Movement. We oppose Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s self-serving attempts to interfere in US foreign policy. We call on all peace loving people to raise their voices in support of diplomacy and against war.”
