Open House March 11: How to Jumpstart a Career in High School

Learn about combining education with marketable skills at the Career and Technical Education Center at Rockland BOCES

High school students, parents, educators and business partners from Rockland County and Northern New Jersey are invited to an Open House from 6-8 p.m. March 11 at the Rockland BOCES Career & Technical Education Center.

Attendees will be able to tour the facilities at 65 Parrott Road in West Nyack and learn about the various programs available, and how students can jumpstart their career while in high school and possibly earn college credits.

“Employers today are looking to hire individuals who have familiarity with the knowledge and skills of their industry. CTEC students have this advantage,” according to Ms. Kim Bell, Principal of CTEC. “Students who complete the courses in their area of study will have a solid foundation to succeed in their chosen career path or post-secondary education.”

The Career & Technical Education Center at Rockland BOCES has been educating and training students for more than fifty years. Students attend their regular high school for half the day and CTEC for the other half. They are eligible to enter the program September of their junior year. Industry specific certification is also conferred in certain fields. Students receive course credit from CTEC towards graduation from their high school and transportation is provided.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for juniors and seniors to learn marketable skills in an environment that is nurturing and learning inspired,” Bell said.
