Palisades Center JC Penney to Close
BREAKING: It's the only Hudson Valley JCPenney store that will close as the company prepares to shut 138 stores nationwide.
WEST NYACK, NY — The JCPenney at the Palisades Center will be shutting down as part of the company's plan to shutter 138 of its stores nationwide over the next few months.
JCPenney released a list Friday that revealed all of the stores that are slated to close. Most of the closures will occur in June.
According to the company, a total of 5,000 positions nationwide will be affected by the store closures.

Two other stores in New York are also on the chopping block: in Dunkirk, on Lake Erie, and Massapequa, on Long Island.
Last month the company announced that it would be closing down up to 140 stores, as well its distribution centers in Lakeland, Fla., and Buena Park, Calif. but did not reveal which stores until Friday.

The move is hoped to help JCPenney better compete in the changing marketplace, Marvin R. Ellison, chief executive officer, said in a statement in February.
“We believe closing stores will also allow us to adjust our business to effectively compete against the growing threat of online retailers,” Ellison said.
