Police Issue Warning on Counterfeit Currency
Fraud reports have been taken in New City, Nanuet and West Nyack since November.

The Clarkstown Police Department’s Strategic Intelligence Unit has seen a rise in counterfeit US currency being reported over the last few months.
The Clarkstown Police Department has taken 24 fraud reports since November, six of which involved counterfeit currency. Half of those were in Nanuet and the others occcurred in West Nyack and New City.
They remind residents and business people to learn some of the basic tips to identifying fake currency:

- Look for security features such as the 3-D security ribbon and/or security thread, color-shifting ink and watermarks. Check the security thread under ultraviolet light.
- Feel to see if the bill is slightly rough to the touch and not overly soft or stiff.
- There is no targeted day of the week or time of day when such fraud incidents occur.
