Rockland Conservation & Service Corps aid Homes For Heroes Vets

The Rockland Conservation & Service Corps (formerly Rockland County AmeriCorps) spent a day at Homes For Heroes helping to dig a drainage ditch. Also, in addition to digging a ditch, they graded the land and installed 1200 square feet of sod! The Rockland Conservation & Service Corps is an outdoor service corps for youth wishing to engage in environmentally based local service projects. Homes For Heroes President, Rockland County Legislator John Murphy, welcomed the youth and thanked them for contributing to this most worthy community project.

The generosity of the time and labor of the Rockland Conservation & Service Corps will assist Homes For Heroes in building and maintaining rental apartments built for our honorably discharged, disabled and displaced, men and women Veterans. Phase I consists of 8 apartments built on the former Camp Shanks, in Tappan, N.Y., from which over 1.3 million GI’s left to fight in Europe during WWII. Phase II is underway to build more affordable apartments to address the urgent need to house homeless Veterans permanently.

To help Homes for Heroes reach their goal of 52 affordable rental apartments for Veterans, check donations can be mailed to Homes For Heroes, Inc., One Blue Hill Plaza, P.O. Box 1648, Pearl River, NY 10965 or credit card donations can be made via www.RocklandHomesForHeroes.Com. Please call Sarah Wade at 845-735-0515, if you have any further questions.

THANK YOU!
