Rockland's STOP DWI Awards Lunch Honors 21 Police Officers

At the annual event, officials noted that in 2014, 867 people were arrested in Rockland for DWI.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day recognized 21 police officers who have made a significant impact in supporting local efforts to eliminate drunk driving at the county’s annual STOP DWI luncheon.

In 2014, a total of 867 people were arrested in Rockland County for driving while intoxicated.

“867 DWI-related arrests were made by law enforcement agencies in Rockland County in 2014, as compared to 803 in 2013,” said Day in a prepared statement. “These numbers demonstrate that our local law enforcement agencies are working hard to remove irresponsible motorists that choose to drive drunk on our roads and endanger innocent lives.”

Rockland County Sheriff’s Officer Robert Moger was awarded “Top Sheriff” honors for collaring 16 drunk drivers in 2014.

Each of the honorees secured more than 10 drunk driving arrests on Rockland County roadways in 2014.

Additional officers from police departments in Clarkstown, Ramapo, Spring Valley, Orangetown, South Nyack/Grandview and the New York State Park Police were honored for removing impaired motorists from our roadways.

“Thank you to all of our dedicated police officers for enforcing Rockland’s zero tolerance policy,” said STOP-DWI Coordinator Leslie Chernin. “We will continue to educate our young people and members of the community on the risks and fatal consequences of drinking and driving.”

Rockland’s annual STOP-DWI awards honor individual law enforcement officers for their outstanding achievements in deterring drunk and impaired driving.

“On behalf of all the residents of Rockland County, I thank you for a job well done,” Day said. “Your professionalism and dedication keep offenders off the roads and keep our families safe.”
