Severe Thunderstorms Possible In The Hudson Valley

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous outlooks just in case.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Some rain could roll in on Tuesday, along with humidity that'll make it feel like 90 degrees in the Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service issued hazardous outlooks:

  • For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester: There is a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening. There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms with the main threat being damaging winds.
  • For Dutchess and Ulster: There is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms across most of eastern New York and western New England on Tuesday. A frontal system will bring scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms to the area, mainly during the afternoon into the early evening hours. Damaging wind gusts would be the primary threat from these storms.

The stormy weather will head our way from the midwest. As the Plains and most of the Midwest get a break, "the mid-Atlantic and Northeast will become the centers of attention," said Andrew Johnson-Levine, AccuWeather meteorologist. "Hail and strong wind gusts will be the main hazards from these storms, in addition to heavy rain and frequent lightning. A tornado or two also cannot be ruled out, however."

The chance of rain is 60 percent — higher than the next chance of rain, which comes on Thursday.

"Things have dried out over the last 2 months, so opportunities for rain are a welcome sight," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather on Facebook. "Unfortunately we don't expect much rainfall on Tuesday, and nothing else of significance in the next 7 days, but we'll keep tracking things."
