Special Weather Statements Issued for Piermont, Nyack

The National Service has issued two statements about hazardous weather conditions in Rockland County:

The NWS also warns that the high and gusty winds coupled with low humidity could quickly spread any wildfires that develop.

“A very strong NW breeze will usher in clouds and a few scattered rain showers across the Hudson Valley, says Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “It’s even cold enough, that some of our higher elevations will see snow showers mixing in. This is all thanks to a very strong dip in the jet stream (at least for late April). Cold air is diving out of Canada, and the northern half of the US is experiencing well below average temperatures.”

High temperatures on Thursday are projected to be 10 to 20 degrees below average across the region.

“Couple that with the strong winds out of the northwest… and it’s going to feel more like early March than late April,” Potter said.

Here’s the forecast for northern Westchester:

• Today-Partly sunny this morning...then mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers this afternoon. Breezy and cooler with highs in the lower 50s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
• Tonight-Mostly cloudy. Patchy frost after midnight. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
• Friday-Partly sunny. Patchy frost in the morning. Breezy with highs in the lower 50s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
• Friday Night-Partly cloudy in the evening...then clearing. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the evening.
• Saturday-Sunny. Highs in the upper 50s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Saturday Night-Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s.
• Sunday-Mostly sunny. Highs around 60.
• Sunday Night-Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s.
• Monday-Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 50s.
