ST. Thomas Aquinas College's WRITERS @ WORK SERIES TO SPONSOR TALK WITH NIKOLE HANNAH-JONES FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

Free event open to the public for those interested in women's history and investigative journalism.

St. Thomas Aquinas College’s Writers @ Work series will sponsor a talk by Nikole Hannah-Jones, acclaimed journalist and investigative reporter, for Women’s History Month, announces Dr. Gerald McCarthy, professor of English at the College. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lougheed Library. Jones will give a talk followed by a Q & A session. This event is free and open to the public.

Jones is a graduate of Notre Dame University (IN) and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a Roy H. Park Fellow. She has been the recipient of awards including: the National Magazine Award, finalist for public interest, 2015; Columbia University Paul Tobenkin Memorial Award; Sidney Award; Silurian’s Excellence in Journalism Award for online investigative news, 2013; Society for News Design Award of Excellence, 2013; Gannett Foundation Innovation in Watchdog Journalism Award, 2012; C.B. Blethen Memorial Award for Distinguished Reporting in the Northwest, 2011 (2), 2012; Society of Professional Journalists Pacific Northwest Excellence in Journalism Award, 2007, 2008, 2010.

Her articles on education and segregation have recently appeared in The Atlantic, ProPublica, and other news outlets. From 2003-2006 she was an education reporter for The News and Observer in Raleigh (NC) and from 2006-2011 she was a reporter for The Oregonian in Portland (OR).
