Early Getaways For Rockland Train Riders: Christmas Weekend 2017

Here are train and bus schedules for work and play over Christmas Week 2017

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Early getaway trains will leave Grand Central Terminal for riders both West-of and East-of-Hudson. The TZx buses will meet those folks getting off in Tarrytown.

Is mass transit your thing? Whether you're going to work or headed into NYC to look at the tree at Rockefeller Center or watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve, here's information about schedule changes over the Christmas week.

Dec. 23, 24: regular service

Dec. 25: TOR operates Sunday schedules on 59, 91, 92, 93 and LOOPS 1, 2 & 3. No service on 94, 95 & 97.

For Metro-North

West-of-Hudson

On Friday, December 22, early getaway trains will operate on both the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines:

  • The regularly scheduled departure from Hoboken at 2:41 p.m., stopping at Secaucus Junction, and all stops between Suffern and Middletown/Town of Wallkill, will be extended to stop at Otisville and Port Jervis. Customers from Manhattan wishing to connect to this train should be on the 2:29 p.m. departure from Penn Station-NY to connect at Secaucus Junction. To accommodate this service, the 6:15 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Port Jervis will not operate.
  • The regularly scheduled Pascack Valley Friday-only train will depart Hoboken at 2:58 p.m., and stop at Secaucus Junction, select stations in New Jersey, and Pearl River, Nanuet and Spring Valley. Customers from Manhattan who are wishing to connect to this train should be on the 2:51 p.m. departure from Penn Station-NY to connect at Secaucus Junction. To accommodate this train, the 7:20 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Spring Valley will not operate.
  • On Saturday, December 23: regular Saturday schedule.
  • On Sunday, December 24: regular Sunday schedule.
  • On Monday, December 25: regular Weekend /Holiday schedule.
  • From Tuesday, December 26- Thursday, December 28: regular weekday service.
  • On Friday, December 29: regular Friday schedule.
  • On Saturday, December 30: regular Saturday schedule.
  • On Sunday, December 31: Sunday schedule with extra early-morning departures on both the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Lines after midnight.
  • On Monday, January 1: Weekend/Holiday schedule.

East-of-Hudson

Early Christmas Getaway Service on Friday, December 22 features extra trains departing Grand Central beginning at 1 PM. Some evening trains will be cancelled or combined because of reduced ridership later in the day.

Christmas Eve falls on Sunday, December 24, and Metro-North will operate a regular Sunday schedule, with additional Shoppers Specials.

On Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, Metro-North will operate a special holiday schedule with hourly service on most line segments, and regular weekend service on all branch lines.

For the week between Christmas and New Year's (Tuesday-Thursday, December 26-28), Metro-North will operate a weekday schedule with reduced AM Peak service and additional inbound service operating in the late morning. PM peak service will operate normally.

On Friday, December 29, Metro-North will operate reduced weekday AM Peak service with additional inbound trains in the late morning. In the afternoon, look for early getaway service (same as Friday, December 22) as shown in a regular timetable or in the Train Time app.

New Year’s Eve Service on Sunday, December 31, includes extra inbound late afternoon and early evening service plus overnight" New Year's morning service. See a Christmas/New Year's Holiday Timetable or the Train Time app. Those of you taking early morning New Year service will have your tickets collected prior to boarding trains at Grand Central.

New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018, Metro-North will operate hourly service on most line segments, and regular weekend service on branch lines.

Remember that drinking alcohol on Metro-North trains and stations is banned from noon New Year's Eve until noon New Year's Day.
