UPDATE: TZB Jumper Identified By Police

A Rockland resident apparently committed suicide Saturday night on the bridge.

NYACK, NY — Police have identified the man who died after jumping off the Tappan Zee Bridge Saturday night.

State police said they were called to the TZB at 10:08 p.m. Feb. 4 after a passer-by observed a vehicle stopped on the bridge and a man standing near the railing.

Their investigation revealed that 53-year-old Kenan Ozdemir, of Valley Cottage, New York, had jumped off the bridge into the Hudson River before police got there.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Westchester County Police Department dispatched marine units to search the river for the victim. About one hour later, the victim’s body was recovered by the Westchester County Police Department.

Ozdemir was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the Westchester Medical Examiner’s Office.
