Weather Update: Light Snow Tonight, Tomorrow--and More This Weekend

Plus really frigid temperatures for Nyack and Piermont

The immediate threat is light snow beginning late tonight night, and lasting through much of Thursday, ushering in frigid temperatures.

And there’s another Alberta Clipper behind this one, with the potential to bring a moderate to heavy snowfall from the upper part of the mid-Atlantic to southern and central New England Saturday night into Sunday, accuweather.com forecaster Alex Sosnowski said.

The region is nearly 20 inches above average now, according to Hudson Valley Weather.

Wayne Ballard, Clarkstown’s highway superintendent, told CBSNew York the town has already gone through almost three-fourths of the salt supply for the season.

In case you’re counting, Monday’s snowfall dropped 3.6 inches on Cold Spring, 4.5 in Somers and 1.5 inches in New City.

Here’s the local forecast for Rockland County:

  • Tonight--Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of snow after midnight. Lows around 15. Northeast winds around 5 mph this evening...becoming light and variable. Chance of snow 20 percent.
  • Thursday--Snow likely. Total snow accumulation around an inch. Highs in the lower 30s. South winds around 5 mph...becoming northwest with gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of snow 60 percent.
  • Thursday Night--Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of snow in the evening. Brisk and cold with lows around 5 above. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of snow 20 percent. Wind chill values as low as 15 below after midnight.
  • Friday--Mostly sunny. Colder with highs around 13. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Wind chill values as low as 16 below.
