The Museum of American Armor reopens to the public this weekend on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, August 9th between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with Sunday dedicated as a special tribute to the Americans who served during the Cold War. Presented in cooperation with the Long Island Living History Association, the weekend's exhibits include a Nike missile once used to defend Long Island from Soviet bombers, along with tanks that would have faced off had the Cold War turned "hot" in Europe. Period equipment, artifacts from various Cold War eras, and living historians will help visitors understand what it meant for two superpowers to confront each other across the globe.
Spanning 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space on the grounds of Old Bethpage Village Restoration, the museum is open year-round Wednesday, and Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is handicapped accessible, and donations are requested. Public presentations are offered in coordination with the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums, under the administration of Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman.
