📰 News we're reading

• Floating Zones & Overlays: Tools To Facilitate Residential Construction In Non-Residential Zoning Districts (rcbizjournal.com) — Two major housing proposals in Blauvelt and Pearl River both depend on whether the Orangetown Town Board will allow new zoning tools to permit apartments in industrial and commercial districts. Developers argue floating zones and overlays could ease the town's housing crunch, while keeping base zoning intact. For now, neither Orangetown proposal has been approved, unlike similar projects in nearby Ramapo.

• Alarming Allegations Target Bar in New York's Most Irish Town (wrrv.com) — State officials have suspended the liquor license of Hudson West Sports Bar and Grill in Pearl River after an enforcement sweep allegedly found extensive underage drinking, followed by a 16-year-old girl found unconscious by Orangetown police the next night. Authorities say the case shows serious supervision failures and have filed multiple alcohol law charges. The bar can contest the suspension at a hearing.

• Hayden Panettiere (ign.com) — Hayden Panettiere, known for roles in Heroes and Remember the Titans, has roots close to home, having attended South Orangetown Middle School before switching to home schooling. The Palisades-born actress built a long career in TV, film, and voice work from childhood onward. Her local schooling is a small but notable link between Orangetown and a well-known Hollywood name.
