70K Still Without Power In The HV: Tuesday AM Progress Report

The power companies are racing to get power restored before the next storm hits.

Rushing to get power restored to all the customers without electricity in the Hudson Valley, crews from the four utilities reported progress Tuesday morning.

About 28,000 Con Ed customers remain without power after crews worked through the night, according to the latest announcement.

O&R reports 4,238 customers still out as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

NYSEG reports 33,985 customers out in Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester as of 9:38 a.m. Tuesday.

Central Hudson reports 3,833 customers out as of 9:40 a.m.

And all the companies are preparing to transition back to emergency response with another potentially damaging weather system approaching.

NYSEG said Monday night an additional complement of more than 300 line workers from other operating companies and contractors would be available Tuesday to advance restoration efforts. NYSEG is focused on its estimated time of restoration, Tuesday evening at 11:45 p.m., when it plans to have 90 percent of customers in Delaware, Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties restored.

In hardest-hit Westchester, Con Ed crews have restored power to 75,000 customers, officials said. The company expects to complete restoration to the vast majority of Westchester customers affected by Riley by 11 p.m. Tuesday. Con Edison has almost 1,800 people involved in restoring power, line repair, site safety and planning, including 400 mutual aid workers, who are from as far away as Canada, Texas and Wisconsin. Con Edison will keep many mutual aid workers already on the job in Westchester County and, given the forecast, also has contacted out-of-state energy companies for additional crews.
