CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — An impressive Westchester County property that played a part in Hudson Valley history was just sold for $5.625 million.
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices announced the sale of Rolling Stone Farm, "a truly rare, extraordinary 106+ acre sprawling estate, overlooking the Hudson River," in Croton-on Hudson.
According to the listing by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services' Will Stuart, who represented both the buyer and the seller in the transaction, Rolling Stone Farm has "marvelous grounds with sweeping lawns, formal English gardens, specimen trees, rolling pastures, enchanting cottages, and equestrian facilities, to boot."
The 5,680-suare-foot, five-bedroom, seven-bathroom, European-style stone and wood shingle home, originally built in the 1930s for the Sears and Roebuck family, has leaded glass windows, bull nose plaster walls, and "gleaming" wide-plank hardwood floors throughout.
In addition to a two-story slate entrance foyer, there is an eat-in kitchen with a butler's pantry, a slate mudroom with a potting area, a formal dining room with doors leading out to patio, a wood-paneled living room with French doors and a fireplace, and a den with a field stone Inglenook fireplace.
Upstairs, there is a primary bedroom suite with vaulted ceilings, a walk-in closet, a fireplace and a marble bath. There are also two en-suite guest rooms, a large office, and a TV room.
The property features a four-car garage with an attached two-bedroom guest annex and full bath.
There are several relaxing areas outside the home, including a 65-foot Gunite swimming pool, a stone spa, a fully equipped pool house, and a tennis court, which are all surrounded by professionally designed greenery, stonework, orchards, and perennial plantings.
The property has an octagonal stone library with a kitchenette and a full bathroom, in addition to a "storybook," two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest cottage with a kitchen, a two-story living room, reclaimed brick floors, and an outdoor patio.
Once home to over 20 horses, Rolling Stone Farm features an 1800s bank barn with a tack room, a feed room, a wash stall, a hayloft, a workshop, a two-bedroom grooms' apartment, an irrigated outdoor riding arena with Lawton Adams footing, an eight-horse hot walker, and several paddocks with run-in sheds, water, and electricity.
The estate also has riding trails with direct access to the Croton Aqueduct hiking path.
"Fully fenced and gated, this exceptional estate offers unparalleled privacy with phenomenal accessibility to NYC, nearby parks and all of the amenities the Hudson Valley has to offer," according to the listing.
Rolling Stone Farm is zoned to the Croton-Harmon School District, with annual property taxes of $142,761.17.
