Another Winter Storm Will Usher In The Weekend For The Hudson Valley

This week may be kicking off a stormy month, meteorologists say.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — More snow, rain and sleet is headed toward our region, with a storm due Friday afternoon.

"With the Hudson Valley just experiencing a widespread 4 to 8 inches of snow, which for most of us was the largest snowfall of the season thus far, we are watching another similar storm system approach for the weekend," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

It's only Tuesday, so there are many uncertainties.

"If the storm ramps up quickly and creates a stubborn wedge of cold air, it could be enough to bring several inches of snow around the New York City area," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. However, if the coastal storm is slow to organize and strengthen, there would be a transition to a wintry mix and just rain, he said.

AccuWeather predicts 1 to perhaps 3 inches of snow. That, Sosnowski said, "will be enough to slow travel and lead to airline delays and flight cancellations."

Temperatures are expected to remain steady throughout the night as the storm comes through. This is what Friday and Saturday may be like, from the National Weather Service:

Longer range, the stormy pattern will continue deeper into March, Sosnowski said. "More persistent cold air combined with storms may lead to more opportunities for snow."
