Assemblywoman Galef focuses on the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail on “Dear Sandy” TV Show

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef interviews Michelle Smith and Linda Cooper about the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef interviews Michelle Smith, Executive Director of the Hudson Highland Land Trust, and Linda Cooper, Regional Director of NYS Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, on this episode of “Dear Sandy.”

The Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail is a multi-use trail that will run from Cold Spring to Beacon. The trail is a collaborative effort with many different groups working together, including the Hudson Highlands Land Trust, scenic City of Beacon, Metro North’s Hudson Line, and state parks.

With a dramatic increase of visitors to the Hudson Valley area, there is much concern over the safety of hikers who are forced to park haphazardly along the side of route 9D in order to enjoy the breathtaking views over the Hudson River. Breakneck Ridge is one of the many trails that have been receiving a lot of attention from the public, where it is possible that over 1,000 people may hike the trail on a Saturday. Thus, the Breakneck Connector will be one of the first projects to be completed for the Fjord Trail to ensure the safety of hikers by expanding parking areas and prohibiting parking in areas that are deemed dangerous. The fjord trail not only serves to make popular daytime hikes like Breakneck Ridge safer, but also give access to the views that the Hudson Valley area has to offer.
