Bitter Cold, Heavy Snow: New Hazardous Outlook For Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Wednesday morning for northern and southern Westchester. While the cold snap is the main topic, both for its rarity and its severity, there's also mention of a weekend snowstorm.

Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday...Bitter cold temperatures will average 15 to 20 degrees below normal. Sub zero wind chills likely Saturday Night through Tuesday morning.

Saturday...There is the potential for a developing coastal storm to bring heavy snow to the area Saturday into Saturday night. There is still uncertainty with the track of the low which will determine the
amount of snowfall. Stay tuned.

To put it in context: by Friday the Northeast could be seeing temps that are 17-40 degrees below normal, said Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

"This is an extremely rare weather pattern," said Bill Potter of HVW.

But as for the weekend storm, Marra said it's too early to tell. "Exactly where the storm forms will play a major role in the outcome of the forecast."
