Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire and Jean Klurfeld, Assistant Curator of the Croton Point Nature Center, will lead a hike on Saturday, September 26, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s history, natural history, archaeology and geology. <ul><li>The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. </li><li>This event is free. </li><li>Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. </li><li>Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes.</li></ul>
Additional hikes will take place at the same time on October 31 and November 21.

<h3>About the Work</h3>
Analogue Sites is a series of steel sculptures by Spanish-American artist and preservationist Jorge Otero-Pailos, created in 2019 from fencing salvaged during the preservation of the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, designed by Finnish-American modernist master Eero Saarinen. Otero-Pailos transformed this material as a way of preserving its layered history and drawing attention to the U.S. Embassy Program—an unprecedented Cold War–era initiative by the State Department that made modernist architecture and the arts central to American diplomacy abroad. These sculptures raise awareness of these embassies at a time when they are being decommissioned and left with little to no preservation protection.
At the Jay Heritage Center, two works are placed symmetrically in the restored garden parterres, framing the central path. Their mirrored placement reflects themes of balance and reciprocity central to diplomacy and honors John Jay’s historic missions to Spain, France, and England, and his role as a founding figure in American diplomacy.
Sculptures from this series have been exhibited in New York on Park Avenue; in London at Regent’s Park and at Winfield House, the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom; and in Washington, D.C., at the National Museum of American Design.

Otero-Pailos is an internationally recognized New York–based artist, architect, and preservationist known for his monumental casts of historical buildings. He has exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Venice Art Biennale and the British Parliament, and his works are held in major museum collections. Otero-Pailos also teaches and directs the Historic Preservation program at Columbia University GSAPP.

Croton Free Library

When Cornelia Cotton opened an art gallery in Croton in 1979, one of the earliest gallery shows was called “Croton Water”– the first time that prints, maps, and ephemera of the Old Croton Aqueduct were shown as an art exhibit. Cornelia was active on efforts to preserve the Aqueduct early on, and after the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct (FOCA) was founded she served on its board for many years. Her presentation will feature a wide variety of images of sites along the Aqueduct, which ran from the Town of Yorktown to The Bronx, crossed the High Bridge over the East River into Manhattan and continued to Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street at the site of the New York Public Library.

Croton Yacht Club

The Croton Yacht Club is happy to announce its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration will be held on Saturday, September 12th, from 11 AM - 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.
 The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources. There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults, focusing on the history and ecology of the river. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making; sail boat rides, and local artist displays and sales. 
Free sailboat rides, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM and 3PM. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10:00AM for any of the day's scheduled sail times. Limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.
 There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Volunteers will be present during the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM and provide the use of fishing equipment and bait, free of charge. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult. 
The Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community, especially the children. The organization realizes that only through this transfer of knowledge can it safeguard the future of this great resource, the Hudson River. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free so please come and join us in a fun filled, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy. The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
