Card Skimmer Suspected At ATM In Croton-on-Hudson

Police ask everyone who used the automated teller machine to check their accounts.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — After investigating numerous complaints over the past few days, the Croton Police Department believes that the ATM at the Wells Fargo branch at 50 Maple St. was compromised by a skimmer device on March 17.

Skimmers are illegal card readers attached to payment terminals — like gas pumps — that grab data off a credit or debit card’s magnetic stripe without your knowledge. Criminals sell the stolen data or use it to buy things online. You won’t know your information has been stolen until you get your statement or an overdraft notice.

If you used that automated teller machine that day, please check your bank accounts for any suspicious activity. If you note withdrawal attempts that you did not make, police ask you to call 914-271-5177.
