Cop Smarts: Trading Online? Exchange in Front of OPD HQ

The Ossining police offer a brilliant suggestion, couched in their inimitable style.

How to make Internet wheeling and dealing safer? Easy! Follow the Ossining Police Department's guideline, and make those face-to-face exchanges in a place where there are manned security cameras, 24/7.

Namely, in front of that well-known building, the Birdsall-Fagan Police-Court Facility.

The OPD has even put signs up to show you just where the cameras have 306-degree coverage.

On a tangental note, this Facebook post is a window into the soul of the social media department of the OPD. They and their commenters came up a long list of items with trading "potential" (but who knew Rainbow Brite dealers were menacing?). The list includes:

  • Tamagotchi
  • Teddy Ruxpin
  • ThunderCats: Lion-O Action Figure
  • Ronco Showtime Rotisserie

Of course Patch asked the important question: what is it they're trading in the photo? Here's the OPD reply: "A gumball machine. Officer Encarnacion really loved it but is ready to move on. Officer Kastanis is thrilled about his new treasure which, he says, will offer sweet rewards for saving spare change."
