On January 21 at 7:45 p.m. Croton police got several 911 calls about a hit and run.
A van had reportedly been struck from behind by a station wagon-type vehicle, said Lt. John Nikitpolous, which then fled the scene.
The vehicles were driving on Route 9 north. Croton police notified the hit and run hotline, state, county and Ossining police departments.
At 8:32 p.m., Ossining police had stopped a station wagon that seemed to match the description of a white-gray color. It was at the Getty Service Station on Route 9.
The driver, 33, with a last known address of James Street, Ossining, was found to have a suspended license and appeared to be intoxicated.
Croton police brought him to headquarters. Here he consented to a breathalyzer test that issued a positive reading for a blood alcohol count above the legal limit of .08.
He was charged:
- with driving while intoxicated,
- leaving the scene of a property damage accident,
- aggravated unlicensed in the third,
- and no headlights.
