Edwin Shapiro: Ossining Town Justice for 3 Decades

Judge Shapiro died Jan. 25.

Edwin S. Shapiro, a longtime Ossining Town Justice, died peacefully on January 25, 2017 at his Briarcliff Manor home after a long illness. He served as Town Justice from 1980 till his retirement in 2011, winning election seven times. He was 86.

Born in 1931 in Brooklyn, he spent his childhood in Brooklyn. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT in 1952 and received his law degree from Harvard in 1955. He then practiced law in Manhattan for several years until moving his practice to Briarcliff Manor.

Mr. Shapiro is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter Sarah Barnard of Windsor, Canada; a son, James Shapiro of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Ashoka Barnard, Kevin Shapiro, Allison Shapiro; a sister, Jane Cohn, of Sherman, CT; two nephews Theodore and William Cohn.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Dale Cemetery in Ossining. Funeral Arrangements by Dorsey Funeral Home, Inc. in Ossining.
