Erik Lawrence, a longtime Levon Helm sideman, has built his career as a Saxophonist – Flutist – Composer – Music Journalist – Poet - Educator. Son of jazz saxophonist and rock and roll guru Arnie Lawrence, who founded the New School of Jazz in New York City and the International Center for Creative Music Studies in Jerusalem, Erik began playing saxophone at five years old. Erik’s music is diverse, soulful, thoughtful, funky and deeply creative. Time and again Erik has been selected by artists for his insight and empathic listening skills, his strong, sensitive, unique voice and sensitivity to complement an artist’s music. His career as a sideman has been marked with renowned artists including Levon Helm, Buddy Miles, Chico Hamilton, Joan Osborne, Sonny Sharrock, The Spin Doctors, The Band with Bob Dylan, master Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog as well as poets Robert Pinsky, Frank Messina, Jane LeCroy and Barry Wallenstein.

After years of playing with master musicians, he has come to learn that sound can elevate and promote healthier states of being. Erik has been developing his unique style of sound healing, using flutes and saxophones, tuning forks and drones, under the tutelage of mentors, Vox Lumina/Brooke Smokelin, Silvia Nakkach, John Beaulieu and Stephanie Rooker, among others. But he also counts mentors Levon Helm and Ossining’s own Sonny Sharrock as two of the greatest sound healers he has encountered.

In private sound sessions, Erik works with individuals using sound healing methods and techniques and deep listening. During the course of the session, Erik will play and record healing your personal, restorative music improvised and composed specifically for each person. That recording will be made available to you personally for download and can be used again and again for centering, healing, rejuvenating, relaxing or meditation!
