Experiencing Science at Croton-Harmon

Students from Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School, Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School and Croton-Harmon High School demonstrated their expertise and creativity as they revealed their scientific endeavors at the fourth annual Experience Science and Innovation Fair.

Stations ran the gamut, from “Spaghetti Bridge Construction” and “Crazy Putty” to “Using the Human Body as a Circuit” and “Cows and Global Warming.” Others included “Lego Robotics,” “Micro-invertebrates,” “The Effect of Music on Plants,” and an assortment of projects that addressed global and environmental issues.

Juniors Roberta Green and William Livingston investigated the consequence of agricultural runoff and synthetic vs. organic fertilizers. The two were Siemens Challenge national finalists. “Organic is much more effective and safe,” Roberta Green.

Fourth-grader Khadia Abam-DePass explained how she formulated the idea for the human circuit. “We studied circuits in Mr. Campanaro’s third-grade class,” she said. “It was really cool, and I decided to come up with this.”
