Extradition Next For Croton Child Porn, Gun Possessor

He was sentenced Tuesday to time served.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A sex offender from Croton-on-Hudson won't go to jail in New York for possessing child pornography and an illegal gun. However, Christopher Alessandro, 26, is awaiting extradition to Virginia on another charge.

He was sentenced Tuesday to time served of 324 days, plus five years’ probation, on the child porn charge. On the firearms charge, Alessandro received three years’ probation to run concurrently.

He was released on his own recognizance. However, he is being held at the Westchester County Jail awaiting extradition to Virginia on another charge.

The case was adjourned to May 7, for a Sex Offender Registration Act hearing.

He told the judge that he plans to move to Putnam County when he is released.

Specifically, Alessandro was sentenced on the following:

  • Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree, a class E felony
  • Attempted Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class A misdemeanor

In April 2018, the Virginia State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit contacted the New York State Police Cortlandt barracks regarding an unknown male in New York sending indecent material to a Special Agent posing as a 14-year-old girl. After a month-long investigation, Investigators in Cortlandt and the Troop K Computer Crimes Unit identified Alessandro.

On May 7, 2018, the New York State Police, in conjunction with the Virginia State Police and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crime Bureau, arrested Christopher Alessandro in the Town of Cortlandt.

He pleaded guilty Feb. 7.
