Being home to a maximum security prison is a unique responsibility. Last night the Ossining Fire Department was called to put out a fire at the Sing Sing Prison firing range, which is not inside the wall.
Throughout last night, the people of Ossining were safe. In fact, this incident provides a reassuring example of how well the Village and Sing Sing Prison officials are able to coordinate resources to preserve the safety of the whole community.
Special thanks goes to the Ossining Fire Department for their swift and admirable response. The cause of the fire is still be investigated. Members of Westchester Department of Emergency Services Cause and Origin team were on the scene last night, and will return today during the daylight to determine what caused the fire.
