Honing the 'Ossining Plan' for Schools

The district's Transition Committee asks parents to fill out a survey about their child's experience.

Since the 1970s, the Ossining school district has sent all its children through school together, to reflect the community’s diversity from kindergarten through high school.

The Ossining Plan is an offshoot of the Princeton Plan to integrate schools by organizing them by grade level and not by neighborhood.

This year, one of the Board of Education’s goals is to review the transitions process which students, teachers, and parents experience every few years.

It’s not just a new building, but also new staff and sometimes new programs and procedures, so the Transitions Committee wants to ensure that the changes are as seamless as possible and provide a positive growth experience for students.

As part of its review, the committee has devised a survey for parents, asking them to describe successes, challenges, and suggestions for improvement.
