Hudson Valley Forecast: Full Moon, Fall Equinox, Then Rain

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The week of the fall equinox and the harvest moon looks to be very autumnal in the Hudson Valley.

According to the National Weather Service, there's a chance of rain from Tuesday night to Thursday. Then a storm front goes through.

"It appears likely that sometime between Thursday and Friday morning, there is a period of steady, soaking rainfall as that front pushes through the region," said Bill Potter and Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather. "If you have plans for the 2nd half of the week, you will want to check for updates."

The chance of precipitation is 70 percent overnight Thursday but it will taper off Friday morning.

This year's harvest moon falls just two days before the autumn equinox on Wednesday. The moon will reach peak illumination in the sky at 7:54 p.m. Monday. The moon will appear full through Tuesday morning.

Here's a look from the NWS based on Mount Kisco:

• Monday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 54. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Tuesday - Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
• Tuesday Night - A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.
• Wednesday - A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind 6 to 11 mph.
• Wednesday Night - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southeast wind around 9 mph.
• Thursday - A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73.

• Friday - Rain likely before 8am, then a chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
