Update On Hudson Valley Snow Forecast

First we'll get a lot colder, says the National Weather Service.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The chance of a widespread accumulating snowfall on Wednesday has diminished, and another thing that's dropping is the temperature.

Temperatures on Tuesday should be 20 degrees lower than on Monday, and that's just during the day. Nighttime temps will be in the 20s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights across the region, and the wind chill factor will make Thursday seem colder.

Instead of the widespread inch of snow initially predicted for Wednesday, the National Weather Service now says scattered snow and rain showers are possible on Wednesday, but most of the threat will pass to the south and east of the Hudson Valley.

A coating of snow is still possible, particularly accumulating in the Catskills, AccuWeather meteorologists said.

The big thing they warned about: slippery roads.

"Throughout the region Wednesday night, another dip in temperatures can cause untreated wet roads and sidewalks to freeze," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. "Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution as any surfaces that appear to be wet could in fact be covered with a thin sheen of clear ice."
