Leandra's Law Invoked in DWI Charge for Croton Man

State police stopped a speeding car on the Sprain.

On August 29, 2015, New York State Police charged 31-year-old Jason VanEtten for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a Felony.

While on patrol, troopers observed a vehicle traveling on the Sprain Brook Parkway in excess of 80 miles per hour. Police stopped the car and interviewed the driver who identified himself as Jason VanEtten. They concluded VanEtten was intoxicated.

The Croton-on-Hudson resident was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law for driving while intoxicated with his 4-year-old son in the vehicle.

VanEtten provided a positive breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .09 percent and was issued traffic tickets ordering him to appear in the Town of Greenburgh Court on Sept. 11.
