Letter To The Editor: Why Support McGrath In Kentucky
The writer is a Croton-on-Hudson resident.

To the Editor,
The sins of Donald Trump are monumental and need not be repeated here. But little attention is given to his enabler-in-chief, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is far worse for our country since he knows better and refuses to act. He slavishly follows the president like a little puppy dog pleading for the occasional pat on the head.
But with your help, we can rid ourselves of this threat to our democratic way of life. Amy McGrath, a retired U.S. Marine lieutenant colonel, a fighter pilot with nearly 90 combat missions flown over Iraq and Afghanistan, has entered next year’s race for the Senate in Kentucky. In 2016, Amy barely lost a House seat in a district her opponent had won by over 20 points in 2014.

This will be a bruising struggle with McConnell employing every means possible to hang on to the position that is the only thing he really cares about. So, if you care about the future of our nation, visit Amy’s website, amymcgrath.com, check out her video and contribute whatever you can to send Amy to Washington and give McConnell more time to spend with his family.
Why, you might ask, should I, up here in NY, care about an election in Kentucky?

Because McConnell, through his own sins of omission and commission, has significantly affected your life. You can no longer deduct your property taxes on your federal income tax return because McConnell rammed through a tax bill designed to punish those of us who do not do obeisance to the president. Your health care is at risk because McConnell has done everything he can to rescind Obamacare without offering a viable alternative.
McConnell stood by quietly while the Russians tried to rig our election and will do so again next year while the president plays footsie with Vladimir Putin. Maybe he thinks Russian interference will benefit his party, which he clearly values more than the American people.
He refused to even consider President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, while promoting extreme conservatives to the same position. He did nothing while the president tore up regulations aimed at controlling climate change. And we need not even mention the immigration mess and the alienation of so many of our allies. This is what McConnell calls leadership
Amy is not a career politician. She is focused on solving problems, not creating them. Fostering cooperation in the Congress, not obstruction. She cares about you, not just the special interests who currently run Washington. And she will stand up for these beliefs against anyone who wants to run roughshod over your rights.
Amy knows combat first hand. McConnell—and the president—each avoided military service through highly questionable medical exemptions. So who do you want making the decisions that could send you or your children to war?
We all agree that money plays too big a role in politics. But McConnell has already raised millions to defeat Amy and will bring in all of his big guns to hang on to his seat.
The smears have already begun. He’s running scared.
You can’t vote for Amy, but you can support her campaign with a contribution. Visit amymcgrath.com. Get to know her and get behind her however you can. Amy will be great for Kentucky. But she will also be terrific for NY and for the entire country. We are at a crossroads and Amy can help tip the balance in favor of you and everyone else who wants our country to return to the ideals and actions that used to make us proud.
Sincerely,
Joel E. Gingold
