WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Here are a double handful of events at Westchester County Parks this coming weekend.

Saturday, May 13
Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282
Morning Farm Chores – 10 a.m. – noon
Find out what it takes to be a farmer with this hands-on experience. Space is limited. Fee $6 per person or $20 family of 4. To register, call 914-864-7286.

Kensico Dam Plaza, One Bronx Parkway, Valhalla – (914) 231-4033
Earth Day Celebration – 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Environmental exhibitors and vendors, raffles, farmers market, recycling awards and live entertainment.

Playland Park, Playland Parkway, Rye – (914) 813-7010
Playland Opening Day – 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Festivities begin with entertainment and a parade at the Fountain Plaza; gates open at noon. $15 unlimited rides wristbands available all day. Entertainment at the Music Tower Theater. Go to PlaylandPark.org.

When Weeds Were Wanted – 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Many weeds were at one time popular and important sources of food, medicine, and fiber. Discover some of the history and uses of these plants during a walk around the park.

Make a Gift for Mom – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Stop by and make a gift for mom to give her on her special day.

Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1 (Boston Post Road), Rye – (914) 835-4466
Volunteer Work Project: Spreading Wood Chips on the Hiking Trails – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Bring work gloves; hand tools provided. Great for any type of service credit hours.

Works by the Westchester Water Color Group on view in the Main House on weekends through May 28.


Sunday, May 14
Bronx River Parkway, White Plains to Scarsdale
Bicycle Sundays – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Parkway closes to vehicular traffic for the exclusive use of cyclists, walkers, joggers and those with strollers, from the Westchester County Center to Scarsdale Road, a 13.5-mile loop. Parking at the County Center. Every Sunday during May and June with the exception of Memorial Day weekend.

Farmers Market – 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Over 20 vendors offer fresh produce and local food products on Sundays through October. List of vendors at muscootfarm.org.
