Maryknoll Lay Missioners Marks 40 Years

A celebration was held Aug. 8 at the international organization's Ossining headquarters.

Maryknoll Lay Missioners recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary and honored its more than 700 members who have contributed to four decades of humanitarian outreach around the world.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Nagele, was a decorated practicing doctor and Maryknoll Lay Missioner in Kenya; other notable figures include Ossining officials Mayor Gearity and Supervisor Donnelly and Maryknoll Lay Missioners Executive Director, Sam Stanton.

Missioners past and present, staff, well-wishers , families and friends gathered to share the stories of mission, insights on what motivates MLM’s missioners and perspective on its’s vision for the future of overseas Catholic mission.

Among the highlights:

Town of Ossining Supervisor Susanne Donnelly issued a proclamation to honor and recognize the organization’s contributions throughout its 40 years of humanitarian service stating “we sincerely thank all member for their devotion to wellness, compassion and service around the world…”

Village of Ossining Mayor Victoria Gearity shared her appreciation for getting to know “so many wonderful Maryknoll Lay Missioners who have returned to the States and made Ossining their home, including Merwyn and Kirstin De Mello and Joe and Jean Regotti , whose daughter Maria has been a frequent babysitter for my family.”

Gearity also issued a proclamation to Maryknoll Lay Missioners recognizing and celebrating its 40thAnniversary and instating August 8th, 2015 as the first official “Maryknoll Lay Missioners’ Day.”
