UPDATE: Trash Caused Massive Delays On Metro-North

It was after noon by the time the commuter railroad resumed a normal schedule.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: Metro-North trains into and out of Grand Central are now running on or close to schedule, according to MTA officials.

The delays continued to be substantial hours after trains were stopped due to police activity. At 11:46 a.m., MTA officials said residual delays were still as long as 50 minutes.

The suspicious bag turned out to be trash, according to news reports.

UPDATE 9:48 a.m.: Service has resumed in and out of Grand Central Terminal. However, anyone on the trains, and anyone trying to catch a train on Metro-North's Hudson, Harlem or New Haven lines should still expect massive delays, MTA officials said.

Riders expressed their displeasure on Twitter.

UPDATE, 9:26 a.m.: The problem confining some Metro-North riders to their trains for more than an hour this morning was caused by an unattended bag found on the 138th Street bridge. Police are on the scene. Delays on the trains continue to build, MTA officials said.


The MTA reports at 9:05 a.m. that delays continue to build on Metro-North due to police activity in the vicinity of 138th Street.

Trains into and out of Grand Central are currently delayed 30-60 minutes, MTA officials said. Actual commuters disagreed.
