Obituary: Frank A. Vassallo III Of Ossining
He was an important part of the community's fabric, serving in numerous capacities including ambulance corps, village board and Rotary.

Frank A. Vassallo III – a lifetime resident of Ossining died at home on Friday, October 22, 2021 after a battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 72 years old. He was born on July 18, 1949 in the old Ossining Hospital on Spring Street in Ossining, NY.
Frank grew up on Prospect Avenue in Ossining with his parents, Frank A. Vassallo, Jr. and Angela D. Vassallo, and his sister Virginia. He graduated from Ossining High School in 1967 and received his BBA in Accounting & Financial Management from Pace University in 1972. Frank held several corporate and public accounting positions ranging from staff accountant to Director of Finance & Associate Administrator at an Ossining Nursing Home. In 1989, he expanded his private accounting & tax preparation practice, formed in 1971, to full time. His office was located on Croton Avenue in Ossining.

On November 11, 1973, he married Barbara A. Williams at St. Ann’s Church in Ossining. They met in April of 1970 when they both joined the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps., where they made many friends, volunteered for many years and helped the sick & the injured. Frank & Barbara enjoyed a long loving relationship working together in Frank’s accounting office for many years where Barbara was his office manager. They loved going to Yankee games, going out to dinner, spending time with friends and family, going to their grandson’s sporting events, attending professional seminars, going to their second home in Vero Beach, enjoying the sun, pool, dining with friends and playing golf for many years.
Barbara, his loving wife of 46 years, passed away on May 18, 2019.

Frank served on many boards of directors over the years, including the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he was a life member, United Way of Northern Westchester, Ossining Chamber of Commerce, and his accounting society, NYSIA. He was a life member of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department, member and former trustee of the Ossining Columbus Lodge, Ossining Rotary Club, where he was a Past President of the club, board member and served as District Treasurer and Assistant District Governor for many years, member of Ossining Elks Club and Ossining Moose Club. Member and former board of directors member of the Pace University Alumni Association.
On the professional level, he was Past President and board member of his New York Society of Independent Accountants and member of the NY/CT Association of Tax Professionals. Frank served on the Village of Ossining Village Board as Trustee & Deputy Mayor from 1994 to 1996.
Frank, predeceased by his wife and parents, is survived by his daughters, Francine (Justin) Minadeo, Dawn (Michael) Turco, three grandsons, Oliver Turco, Joseph Turco and Ryder Minadeo. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia (JC) Leary, cousins Bonnie & John Joe D’Emidio and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, clients. Frank enjoyed numerous summer vacations in Lake George, NY, Cape May, NJ, Vero Beach, FL, and Disneyworld.
In his earlier days, Frank worked at his father’s service station where he made many friends and enjoyed the working bond with his father. Like his grandfather, Frank A. Vassallo, Sr. and father, Frank A. Vassallo, Jr., Frank were self-employed. His grandfather had a barber shop in Croton-on-the-Hudson and his father owned and operated a service station at 107 Croton Avenue in Ossining for many years. Frank had his accounting & tax practice on Croton Avenue in Ossining, just 4 doors down the street years later. Frank was always generous and wanted to give back to the Ossining community. Frank’s father was a charter member and one of the first officers of OVAC in 1958 which inspired Frank to join the volunteer community service organization in 1970. There were many ambulance calls where the crew were Frank Jr., Frank III and Barbara, known as the 3 Vassallos.
Frank would always go out his way to help a relative, friend, customer or client. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him.
The visiting hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 PM.
The funeral mass is on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Ann’s Church in Ossining.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Ossining Rotary Club and SPCA of Briarcliff Manor would be appreciated.
