Helen Marie Anderson Megley, born November 13, 1917, died August 28, 2021, in her Croton-on-Hudson home.

Born on Catherine Street in Boston’s Forest Hills, the second of six children to Helena O’Sullivan of Lisbealad, Ireland and Carl Fritiof Anderson of Goteborg, Sweden. Helen attended Girls High School in Roxbury with her sisters Esther (Rossi) and Greta (Johnson). There were three handsome younger brothers, Carl, George and Peter.

Married to John Francis (“Jack”) Megley in 1943, she raised five children: David, John, Peter, Paul and Jane and was blessed with better than average grandchildren: Anna, Sean, Joseph, Margaret, Sam and Catherine, and four exceptional great-grandchildren. She was also a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews, and an insightful, caring and cherished friend to many, always inclined to put herself second to help others.

A lover of literature (including Mr. Yeats) and opera (Saturday mornings listening to the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts; influenced by her father’s singing in Verdi’s Anvil Chorus). Active with Holy Name parish and the Village library.

Helen was a gifted artist, exhibiting portraiture, watercolor and pastel paintings in shows in the Hudson Valley, winning first prize in the Ossining Women’s Club show. Her artwork has been lovingly shared with family and friends across the country and overseas.
