Ossining, Ameresco Transform Education with Energy Innovations

Collaborative Energy Performance Contract Yields Cutting-Edge Technologies, Renewable Energy, and a $100,000 STEAM Curriculum Grant.

The Ossining Union Free School District is proud to announce an update on its Energy Performance Contract (EPC) initiative. In December of 2022, the district partnered with Ameresco, a leading Energy Services company (ESCO), following a rigorous competitive bidding process.

Ameresco worked closely with district personnel to formulate a comprehensive scope of work aimed at maximizing building efficiencies. The collaborative efforts resulted in the integration of Heat Pump technology at Brookside, Claremont, and Ossining High School, providing optimal heating and cooling in classrooms to create conducive learning environments while simultaneously reducing the district's carbon footprint.

The pinnacle of the project includes the installation of four Solar PV systems generating over 1.27MW of renewable energy. Notably, the Brookside school parking lot is now adorned with a cutting-edge 326 kW parking lot PV canopy, offering shading and weather protection for parked vehicles.

This grant is designed to have an immediate and long-term impact, supporting existing STEAM programs and engaging new students in the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

"We are excited to unveil the remarkable progress achieved through our Energy Performance Contract with Ameresco," said Interim Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter. "This transformative initiative not only optimizes our schools' energy efficiency but also introduces cutting-edge technologies and renewable energy sources. The $100,000 STEAM curriculum grant further underscores our dedication to fostering a holistic and innovative learning environment for our students."
