Ossining Coronavirus: Taking Attendance When School Is Online
District officials are tweaking the self-reporting method, trying to keep students and parents focused on daily school work.
OSSINING, NY — When education is online, day after day, how do you keep it going? Ossining district officials are tweaking the self-reporting method by which they are trying to keep students and parents focused on daily school work.
"We will continue to ask all students to check in about their remote learning by completing the engagement Google form provided by Ossining staff members," said Superintendent Ray Sanchez in a letter to the community. "Monitoring engagement in remote learning continues to be very important to us."
However, there are a couple of changes.

Elementary students will continue to receive the Google form through classroom teachers’ daily emails, but officials are no long expecting the form to be filled out by 2 p.m.
"Students should do their best to get them in before the end of the day. Families with younger children are encouraged to fill the form out together," Sanchez said. "Student and family voice helps us support your needs better and informs our practice."

Secondary students will continue to receive an email every Wednesday morning, asking them to complete the check-in. The forms should be completed by 2 p.m. Thursday.
Teachers will also be marking students active or inactive based upon student participation in virtual class discussions, completion of activities, and/or contact with their teacher regarding class assignments.
Lastly, there's still a need to call your child in sick if they're not participating due to illness.
