Ossining Man Faces Drug Charges after Thruway Accident

Drug charges plus several vehicle and traffic violations

At 9:27 a.m. Monday, State Police responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident northbound on I-87 near New Paltz.

Police said Honda Accord lost control, running off the roadway into a muddy ditch. Police allege they found the driver, Robert J. Arciola, 35, of Ossining, NY, to be impaired on drugs and in possession of heroin and marijuana.

He was placed in custody and transported to SP Newburgh, where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert, and submitted to a urine sample to determine the drug content in his system. He was subsequently charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree; a Class C Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs; a Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana; a Violation
  • Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations

Arciola was arraigned before the Town of New Paltz Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
