Ossining Students Named Best Speakers at Prestigious JSA Conventions

Ossining High School (OHS) students once again demonstrated their exceptional talents at the Junior State of America (JSA) conventions, showcasing their dedication to civic education and leadership.

In February of 2024, OHS students delivered an outstanding performance at the JSA Winter Congress Convention held in Washington DC. Sophomore Carter Simkins was honored with the prestigious Best Speaker award, underscoring the school's commitment to fostering critical thinking and public speaking skills.

This achievement follows Carter's success at the JSA Fall State Convention held at Boston University in November of 2023, where he also clinched the Best Speaker award alongside his classmate Junior William Flahaven.

"These accomplishments at both JSA conventions reflect the dedication of our students to civic education and engagement. Ossining High School is proud to cultivate an environment that encourages critical thinking and public speaking skills," said Kara Burns, Social Studies Teacher at Ossining High School.

The Junior State of America is a renowned student-led organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement and leadership among young people across the United States. Through its various programs and events, JSA empowers students to become informed and active citizens, preparing them for future leadership roles in their communities and beyond.
