Ossining Student's Film Selected for First-Time Filmmaker Showcase

Sebi Japal, a Junior at Ossining High School, has captured the attention of the indie filmmaking world with his debut short film, "Late 4 Skool."

Created as part of teacher Ron Whitehead’s Filmmaking 1 class, the comedy short showcases the young filmmaker’s talent and creativity.

Directed, edited, and produced entirely by Sebi, "Late 4 Skool" tells the humorous tale of a student who finds himself in a comical predicament when he realizes he's running late for school, only to discover he's mixed up his days.

“I love the upbeat vibe of this short film,” said Mr. Whitehead. “Sebi has a great eye for composition and his cinematography is top-notch. The film is action packed and full of fun and surprises.”

Impressed by Sebi's work, Mr. Whitehead submitted the film for consideration in Lift-Off’s First-Time Filmmaker Sessions, a monthly online showcase of indie films from emerging artists around the globe. Following a competitive screening process, Sebi's film was selected to be featured alongside other indie shorts on Vimeo for two weeks in March 2024.

The top three films from each program will proceed to the final round for judging by Lift-Off's internal panel. Winners will be placed on the shortlist for Season Awards Nomination, an Intermediate Network Membership (valued at $97), and a chance to pitch future projects to industry professionals at the world-famous Pinewood Studios, home of blockbuster franchises such as James Bond and Star Wars.

“Sebi’s creativity and passion for filmmaking are on full display in this film, and it's exciting to see him receive recognition on a global platform,” added Mr. Whitehead.
